The involvement of different social actors in the formulation of public interest programs expresses a democratic conception of the country and public institutions. It is an essential requirement for building a less unequal and more balanced society.
The exercise of mobilizing and articulating different social actors in favor of a cause synthesizes the meaning of the expression advocacy, borrowed from English and still without a consolidated translation into Portuguese. Since the 1990s, SBSA lawyers have worked in advocacy, with the monitoring of draft laws, dialogue with the Legislative, Executive and Judiciary branches; support in the mobilization of civil society and production of studies and legal opinions on specific topics.
Our experience in initiatives to expand the right to information in its three dimensions (the right to inform, the right to inform oneself and the right to be informed) has provided us with a history of good results in influencing opinion makers and decision makers on the conception, approval and execution of public policies in favor of determined causes.
